Dordt’s official history describes opening day with 35 enrolled students and five faculty members. Contemporary accounts and Wikipedia cite roughly 40 students in the first class.
The campus consisted of a new four-classroom building on property that had been a mink farm, surrounded by crop fields—a humble beginning for an institution that would grow to more than 1,200 students within two decades.
